Platform. This word and accompanying concept strikes fear in the heart of many writers, yours truly included. Traditionally, platform included speaking engagements, access to influential groups related to the book's genre, a large number of newsletter subscribers, etc. Now, social media is the king, with the aforementioned elements coming in a distant second. That means we writers who want to effectively sell our books must be marketers, too.
